The ‘Beat the Break’ slogan marked the launch of a year-long risk awareness campaign that reached its highpoint on World Osteoporosis Day 2007. The key message of the campaign was that early awareness of personal risk factors should trigger testing and, if needed, treatment to reduce the risk of fragility fractures. Targeted at both the general public health professionals, the focus was on the clinical risk factors which heighten osteoporosis risk. These include lifestyle factors (such as smoking or poor nutritional status) as well as non-modifiable factors such as diseases and medications that threaten bone health.
A highlight of the campaign was the launch of a newly revised and interactive online IOF One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test.
