According to WHO, in 2000, more than 9 million fractures were registered due to low-energy trauma. This means that the fracture in such a patient occurred when falling from a standing height. Should we blame the "hard" floor or think about the” fragility " of the bone?
According to statistics from the WHO, every 3rd woman after 50 years and every 5th man over 70 years old will get such a fracture due to osteoporosis - a silent epidemic of the 21st century. Osteoporosis does not hurt and often its first manifestation for the patient is a fracture and traumatologists are doctors who meet with this terrible complication. Of all the target fractures of osteoporosis, the most severe is a fracture of the neck or trochanter region of the hip, after which, according to Russian researchers, 33% of patients will remain bedridden, and 42% will never leave their apartment.
Leonid Farba, traumatologist of the City clinical hospital 13, will speak about this in his presentation.
