Love Your Bones at the Vanvitelli University in Naples, Italy

On World Osteoporosis Day 2026, the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Unit of the University Hospital AOU Luigi Vanvitelli, in collaboration with FEDIOS, will welcome citizens and patients for an initiative dedicated to osteoporosis prevention, early risk identification and secondary fracture prevention.

The Unit hosts a multidisciplinary, coordinator-based Fracture Liaison Service (FLS), recognized level on the International Osteoporosis Foundation’s Capture the Fracture® Map of Best Practice. The FLS provides a structured pathway for people with fragility fractures, integrating systematic patient identification, osteoporosis and fracture-risk assessment, falls-risk evaluation, appropriate pharmacological management, rehabilitation and long-term follow-up. During the event, participants will be offered a brief interview and a structured osteoporosis risk check covering major clinical risk factors, including age, previous fractures, low body weight, height loss, parental history of hip fracture, relevant medical conditions, long-term use of medications affecting bone health, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. The rehabilitation team will provide personalised counselling on bone-healthy nutrition, physical activity, fall prevention, diagnostic assessment, pharmacological treatment and rehabilitation, with particular attention to osteoporosis, sarcopenia, functional recovery and the preservation of independence. FEDIOS educational materials will also be distributed. The initiative supports the 2026 campaign “Love Your Bones. Protect Your Future” and promotes a clear message: every fragility fracture should trigger coordinated action to prevent the next one.
